Joe's dedication to soccer extends to giving back to the community. After experiencing the business side, he's returning to his roots of nurturing the game through player development. Joe frequently provides scholarships and offers time and financial support to enhance the success and sustainability of organizations. His commitment to growing the sport is unwavering and deeply impactful.
During summers at Harvard, Joe worked for the inner city GOALS program put on by the state soccer association.
Joe took his Junior Spring Semester off at Harvard and went to South Africa to work in the SCORE program – Sports Coaches Overseas Relief Effort. There he become a Physical Education teacher in a township called Khayelitsha, in a spell that was cut short due to the assassination of Chris Hani that April.
In his mid 20s, he returned to Northern Ireland to establish a Cross Community Project, trying to get Derry’s Catholic and Protestant professional teams agree to let him launch a joint Academy.
During his time at GPS, he established a foundation with free programming in Brockton, Lowell, Everett, Jamaica Plain and Mattapan. The Foundation went on to do work overseas with programming in Haiti, sending coaches there and bringing players from Haiti to play with GPS teams in showcase tournaments to facilitate a possible college soccer opportunity.
One of GPS’ biggest success stories was the inner city players they developed - an example is Edens Chery who played 3 years for Joe before going to college at U Mass Lowell where he was an all American. Edens, a Haitian immigrant, was the first member of his family to attend College.
Today, Joe is equally as driven to impact players and organizations that need support. Please reach out to our team to see how we can collaborate!
